Coke oven battery No.3

 

DUNAFERR Integrated Steel Plant coke oven battery №3 was designed by GP "Giprokoks" (Ukraine) and commissioned in 1986. After 15 years of operation due to objective and subjective reasons, there was an emergency on the battery:  17 ovens were phased out completely, 22 furnaces required repairs, and 26 furnaces were operating with partial load. Further battery operation in terms of economy, safety and environmental protection became inappropriate.

The reconstruction project included carrying out of works in terms of battery operational condition with minimal financial expenditures in two stages, so that the battery was divided into two parts. The special requirement of the Customer was that 50% of the battery chambers must be in operation during the reconstruction. In order to stabilize work of by-product coke production, Concord Group experts carried out hot repair of 7 ovens, before the beginning of reconstruction.

The reconstruction of coke oven battery in operation in two stages required the use of a number of unique and innovative solutions: temporary charge feeding device – loading of coal charging car was carried out from the end platform. Charge was fed into bunkers by means of conveyor system; building enclosure on the existing anchor pillars, etc.

Scope of supply and construction-assembling works:

  • basic engineering;

  • detailed engineering;

  • basic and auxiliary technological equipment supply;

  • material supply;

  • arrangement of temporary charge feeding – loading of coal charging car was carried out from the end platform. Charge was fed into bunkers by means of conveyor system;

  • complete re-bricking of the top superstructure;

  • repair of the three upper rows of the inclined flue zone;

  • re-bricking of head part of regenerator walls;

  • replacement of fire grates;

  • replacement of flash plates and door frames;

  • replacement of reverse valves, gas and air valves;

  • replacement of hydraulic-assisted stand pipes and industrial pipelines;

  • carrying out of hot-repairs on the part of the battery under reconstruction;

  • implementation of automated process control system;

  • drying and heating up.

Industrial tests on battery have confirmed all warranty indicators including: the period of coking, heat consumption for coking charge, the daily battery gross coke productivity.
